On Sunday 25 May, in Dobsonville, an off-duty SAPS officer witnessed a suspect pointing a firearm at another individual. The officer reported the vehicle’s details, which were added to Platform1’s National Vehicles of Interest (VOI) Database.
On Wednesday, 25 June, the vehicle alerted a Platform1-connected License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera in Meadowlands. The alert was escalated to Meadowlands SAPS members, who located the vehicle at a nearby hostel. The suspect was arrested for illegal possession of nine live AK-47 rounds. The vehicle was seized as part of the investigation.
This outcome shows what’s possible when vigilant policing and smart technology come together. It also highlights the value of accurate, up-to-date intelligence.
Platform1 prioritises quality over quantity when it comes to LPR alerts, with a focus on helping law enforcement agencies respond quickly and safely – ensuring policing resources are deployed where they’re needed most.
Thank you to the SAPS members involved for their dedication and swift action.
